De methode is ontwikkeld door de in 1927 in Beijing geboren LU Ding-hou.

We citeren een uitleg m.b.t. deze techniek:

a) Oblique acupuncture works by enhancing the synthesis and assembly of contractile proteins and speeding the recovery of contractile structure and function, thus leading to clinical cure and disappearance of pains. Stable and permanent improvement is effected rather than temporary suppression of pains and sedative effects.

b) Oblique acupuncture works mainly through peripheral mechanisms. Full therapeutic effects of oblique acupuncture on the structural and functional recovery of injured muscles remain intact even after the destruction of brain, destruction of spinal cord, blocking of motor endplate and testing of muscles in vitro isolated from all connections, nervous or humeral. It is thus confirmed that all the effects are not mediated by central regulation through nervous connection or Channels (or Meridians), but rather through peripheral mechanisms intrinsic to the muscles themselves.

c) It has also been demonstrated (by ZHANG Jian-guo et al.) that oblique puncture produced better results on the recovery of contractile protein (Z line) than perpendicular puncture.
