De Britse artsenvereniging, BMA, heeft een discussiestuk gepubliceerd in November 2007, over hoe zinvol het is om je geheugen en andere hersenfuncties te ondersteunen met supplementen, zoals omega-3 vetzuren, en moderne wijzen van hersenstimulatie. Boosting Brainpower heet het document. De reden hiervoor is om een maatschappij brede discussie te steunen over de wenselijkheid en de zinvolheid van het boosten van je hersenen:

The key aim of this paper is to facilitate informed debate amongst doctors, scientists, policy-makers, and members of the public about the future development and use of cognitive enhancements. Providing the facts, information and some of the arguments it signals the beginning of a debate about how, as a society, we should consider and respond to the opportunities and challenges presented by cognitive enhancements.
