Hydrolytische enzymen bij kanker lijken in een aantal studies zinvol te zijn. Deze analyse zullen we spoedig completeren. De gegevens zijn echter zo tegenstrijdig, dat we daar even de tijd voor moeten nemen.
In patients with locally advanced cancer of the uterine cervix, oral enzyme therapy was found to be effective in significantly reducing radiation therapy-related side effects such as genitourinary symptoms, subcutaneous changes and reactions of the vaginal mucosa. [1] Combination of enzyme therapy with conventional fractionated radiation therapy was feasible and well-tolerated. There was significant protection against acute side effects of radiation therapy in the study arm. [2] Het maakt wel uit wat voor orale enzymen, want sommigen doen in bepaalde studies blijkbaar niets: The present study failed to demonstrate any effect of treatment with Wobe-Mugos E on radiotherapy side effects in patients treated for head-and-neck tumors. In particular, there was no beneficial effect on radiation-induced early oral mucositis. [3] Het enzyme Wobe-Mugos E bevat 100 mg papaine, 40 mg trypsine, en 40 mg chymotrypsine.
